The Joys of Thrifting, Part 1

Many people scoff at the mere thought of anyone stooping so low as to purchase their attire at a thrift store, when they can afford to shop at a "real" store. You may be surprised to find that thrifting is not as bad as it seems, is actually really fun, and is a pretty hip thing to do. In this post, I will list several reasons why thrift shopping is such a good idea.

1. It saves money. Prices at thrift stores are usually very cheap - er, reasonable - so while $20 may buy only one thing at a department store, it could buy you many things at a thrift store.

There's something for everyone
2. More variety. At thrift stores you can find new clothes still with the tags, and you can find clothes from the 00s, 90s, and 80s. There are normal-looking clothes and out-there clothes. There's something for everyone.

3. It's like a treasure hunt. You never know what you're going to find. I've found a groovy 70s rotary phone, necklaces, 40s style pumps, a favorite pair of jeans, and so much more. You never know what weird or interesting things you'll find at a thrift store.

4. It supports local businesses or charity. There are chain thrift stores like Goodwill, which give money to charity, and there are also local thrift stores which do so. It should be noted, though, that not all thrift stores help charities, so you should always ask.

5. It's better for the environment. Most clothes found a "regular" stores are made overseas, so the energy it takes for them to be transported here adds to pollution and uses energy.

It's a treasure hunt
