On Being a Homeschooler

Many people think homeschoolers are nerdy, sheltered, and socially awkward. This is true is some cases, but most of the people I know who have the privilege - yes, it's a privilege - of being educated at home are not like this. As with anyone, there are shy homeschoolers and out-going ones. That has more to do with personality than form of education, though.

Most homeschoolers are "socialized". Yes... "socialized"... Every homeschooler soon gets used to getting asked questions like "Do you have any friends?" "How do you find friends?" and "Do you have a boyfriend/girlfriend?" the ultimate question of socialization. Just because we learn at home, does not mean that our parents never let us out of the house!

The homeschooler stereotype includes: camo, white sneakers, jean skirts and jumpers, plaid, Little House on the Prairie dresses, and duct tape. However, not all
homeschoolers are like this. In fact, being homeschooled gives us more freedom with our clothes, meaning that we don't have as much pressure from peers to dress "fashionably." Instead, we are able to explore our own style (within reason and modesty, of course).

There are many other reasons that homeschooling and homeschoolers are great, but I wouldn't want to make you non-homeschoolers jealous. :)

SHOES, SHOES, and more SHOES!

                                               Shoes, Shoes, and more Shoes!
So, you're walking around the mall with your friends and you see an awesome pair of shoes. You just have to have those shoes and you have the money for them right now. But before you buy them you realize, "What am I going to wear with these shoes?" This is a simple question and I can answer it.

Women's Favorite Cami

AMBAR Women's Stretch Twill Skirt - Zebra Print

Xhilaration® Junior's Lace Fit & Flare Dress - Assorted Colors

So these are the shoes you saw at the mall. Gorgeous right? Of course! Any girl would love to have a pair of shoes like this. I would recommend wearing a jean skirt with a dark colored, modest, top. Use the finger rule for the skirt. Or you could wear a cute bright or dark colored dress. A shorter dress would be good. Remember the finger rule.

Floral Crochet Lace Platform Sandal Wedge

These shoes would go great with a cute jean dress such as in this picture

or a light pink shirt and jeans like in this picture.

There are many things you can do with shoes and clothes. You just have to know how to put them together.

Top 5 Travel Tips

I'm in the speech and debate club, and one of my favorite things about it are the tournaments. We get to travel all over the country/region and compete. Because of this, I've pretty much got my travel routine down. These tips work well for me, and help keep me from losing my sanity while one the road!

Tip 1- Take a picture of everything you pack.

Taking a picture of what you pack gives you a way to double check that you have everything when you are ready to go back home. If you lose something in the hotel room, or grabbed something from your family members suitcase, you can easily identify what is misplaced. I do this with my iPod, but a written list of items will work just as well.

Tip 2- Bring a crossbody/small purse.

Tempting though it is to grab the purse that can hold everything and the kitchen sink, it will simply hold you back. Bulky purses hold lots of stuff, which makes it easy to over pack. Do you really need 5 different lip balms and sanitizers for a week long trip? By opting for a small purse, you bring the necessities, while keeping everything neat, orderly, and ready to grab!

Tip 3-Have a book or movie on hand.

Wi-fi is your friend.....until you're in the middle of nowhere with no entertainment! Don't rely on cyberspace for enjoyment. Instead, bring a good book, listen to some tunes, or watch a downloaded movie.

Tip 4- Wear something comfy.

Heels look great, but will have your feet waving the white flag of surrender by the end of the day. Avoid extreme pain by wearing comfy yet cute shoes, clothes, and jackets.

Tip 5-  Don't eat junk food on the road.

You're going to hate me, but let me finish. Junk food is bad for you, and gives you no energy whatsoever. Seriously, traveling is hard enough on your digestive system without overloading it with garbage.

The Joys of Thrifting, Part 2

In this sequel to my last thrifting post, I will give several simple suggestions on buying at thrift stores.

1. Check for flaws. Since most of these clothes are second hand, check for stains, missing buttons, rips, etc. However, if you find flaws like these, keep in mind that some stains can still be cleaned out, and that buttons can sometimes be replaced. Also, you will probably get a discount on a flawed item.

2. Look alllll the way down the rack. Most thrift stores have sizes labelled on the rack, with smalls in one section, then mediums, etc. However, with lazy browsers or workers, the clothes can get mixed up, so it's always a good idea to check all the sections for your size. Also, because of different brands and sizes, you may wear a medium in one brand, and a large, or even a small in another brand.

3. Shop by colour or fabric type. I have a pretty good idea of what colours and shades compliment my colouring, so I go straight to those colours. Then, with practice, I've learned to tell if I like something or not just by looking at the part of the apparel visible (i.e. I see weird 90s print - pass).

Grocery Products With Funny Names

                                              Ever Notice Something Strange?

Ever been grocery shopping and notice a product with a strange name? If you have you're not alone.
Salsa Mostaza de Dijon 215 gr GREY POUPON
This is one of the things I have found while grocery shopping at Wal-Mart. As you can see it is a type of mustard with a strange name. Hopefully in another language it does not look like it sound in ours. I would be totally embarrassed if my family owned that product because of how the name sounds.

Although we know this refers to as animals, it still sounds terrible.
Funny Food Barfy
I don't know about you but I wouldn't want to eat a product with that name. Yuck!

Really? Why would you name a product that? It could scare away customers!

Sorry, I couldn't resist. This is too much. Obviously people aren't as smart as we make ourselves out to be. There were many other images of oddly named products but some were inappropriate. Hope you enjoyed this blog.

I don't own any of these photos. I found them on yahoo search.

Geek Memes

I'll admit it, I'm a pinterest addict. I've got around six boards, all with upwards of twenty pins on each. That being said, my favorite thing about pinterest has to be the memes and GIFs. So, for your viewing pleasure, I have compiled a post of my favorite geek memes, including Doctor Who, Sherlock, and cats (of course!). So finish your drink, and chew your food well, because your about to indulge in a hearty laugh!
